Hi everyone!
This week we are supposed to create a lesson plan where our students must collect some sort of data related to our project. We can't use the same ideas, so I was thinking we should post our ideas here so we all are aware of each others' lessons. Also, since Jessica created the original concept map, either Kati or myself must make the new adjustments. This post should also be used to discuss revisions for the concept map, that way we are all on the same page and it's easier for the person revising it to include all aspects and ideas of our project.
I am going to start my lesson plan today and I am going to have my students collect data on nutrition facts. I might have them find the amount of calories and/or fat in some foods from their home. They will then have to record their data in an excel spreadsheet. (I will post a more definitive idea once I get started creating my lesson plan, but this will be the main concept of mine). We all have to do something different so please post what you are going to be doing and if you have any questions, we can help each other!
ReplyDeleteSo I decided that I am going to have my students collect information on their favorite foods. It will be an introduction assignment to a "Healthy Eating" study (:
Delete*Favorite Restaurants* instead of favorite foods. Thats the final change, I promise! How are you guys doing on your lesson plans?
DeleteThanks for starting this post Taylor! That sounds good, I am starting my lesson plan today so I'll let you know what topic I choose. Having them collect information on favorite restaurants is a good idea! If you're not doing it anymore, do you mind if I use your idea of having them collect nutrition facts? Was there a reason you decided not to do that topic? I think it sounds like a good idea.
DeleteI like these ideas! I am still trying to figure out what to do, and I am going over the revisions for the map!
DeleteGo for it Jess!
DeleteSo for revising our concept map, I'm thinking that we should make some adjustments to the "sub-bubbles". Instead of having so many branches for different aspects of nutrition I think we should base the concept map off of our health fair. Maybe we could have one bubble coming from the center that says "Food groups" and then have each of the five food groups extending from there. And then extending from each of the food groups we could have bubbles with different aspects of each like "Examples of food in this group", "Daily recommendations", "Nutrition facts", etc. We should keep the bubbles that say "advertising health fair", "health terms", and "physical activity". Maybe we could add a bubble extending from the middle that says something about how we are going to work in groups like "group roles" and then have bubbles coming out of that for how we are splitting students into groups and what their roles will be. Then we could have a bubble coming from the center that says "Day of the health fair" and have bubbles explaining that it will take place in the gym, there will be a station for each food group, and anyone from the school or community can come observe. What do you guys think? Should we take it in that direction or keep it how it is and just make some small adjustments?
ReplyDeleteIf it's not too late, I agree that we should center our project off of the health fair and have the bubbles coming out of the center include activities leading up to the health fair. For example, a nutrition study with food groups. Another bubble to add could be a guest speaker like a nutritionist or doctor. Another bubble could be the Jump Rope for the Heart event or other events that the school may put on. Those are just some ideas that I had. I don't think our bubbles should be so detailed like with how to split groups and doing group roles. Those will be included in the lesson plans that we create for those activities. Same with the Day of the Health Fair bubble. Just because those things will be included in our lesson plans, not necessarily the project plan concept map. Thanks for doing revisions Jess and Kati!
DeleteOkay I decided what I am going to make my lesson plan on: Physical Activity. I am going to have students collect data on aspects of different types of physical activity such as running, walking, and different work-outs. For each type I will have them collect data on heart rate, etc. and record in an excel sheet.
ReplyDeleteAnyone have any other ideas?
ReplyDeleteCan I use the Nutritional Facts one? I think I am going to have them record everything they eat with the amount of calories for a two week long process and then record them in an excel spreadsheet and then show their daily calorie intake and compare each weeks intake at the end? Would this work?
ReplyDeleteYea I was actually going to recommend that one!
DeleteTaylor were making adjustments to the concept map Kati signed into my account on bubbl.us and added a bunch of stuff bc we couldnt figure out how to share it! Ill send it to your gmail so you can check it out and if you want to add anything ill give you my login so you can go on there because it only lets you send a read only version.
ReplyDeleteKati I just finished adding some stuff do you want to wait and see if Taylor wants to add anything and then post it? Thanks!! Good job
ReplyDeleteYes, Ill post it tonight at some point or tomorrow morning just so we have a little extra time for Taylor to check it out! Thank you!! I am almost done with my lesson plan too! :)
ReplyDeleteOk sounds good! :)
DeleteI don't see anything you added....
ReplyDeleteOh no did it not save?! Let me check
DeleteYea it saved! I wonder why you cant see anything. Its the concept map called "food groups"
DeleteI can't see it. did you add to it? more than what i did?
DeleteHi guys, just so I am up to date, is Kati going to upload the new concept map? The instructions say to have a new group member upload it to the blog, so it has to be someone other than Jessica since she did it the first time. I have no problem trying to go ahead and do so, but it sounds like you guys already have some revisions and Kati had been working on it (:
ReplyDeleteTaylor if you can see it and the revisions can you upload it? Cause i dont see any of the revisions.
ReplyDeleteI haven't added anything, I just posted a comment above under Jessica's comments with a few ideas. I don't have the log in information yet, so if you read the comment and agree with some of the ideas, go ahead and throw them in there before tonight! Thanks (:
ReplyDeleteI saw your upload of the concept map, I think it looks good, but I think the center has to be our concept of the health fair. That was one of the changes we had to make before when she first corrected our original concept map.
ReplyDeleteI made the changes and uploaded it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
