Hey guys!
Just thought I'd touch base with you! I just sent my web review email to the instructor so once she emails me back I'm going to start looking for websites and filling out the web evaluations. As we start finding websites lets make a post for them with each of our names to make sure none of us are evaluating the same sites. Let me know what you think!
Sounds great! I will email her soon and look for a reply. Then I will begin to look for websites. We need three websites per person, correct?
ReplyDeleteYep, three each! The email to her is due tonight at midnight btw (just letting you know because i just realized that yesterday!)
ReplyDeleteOn what topics though? like do we just do find different "subtitles" that we used to find different websites and evaluate those?
ReplyDeleteThank you! I sent it earlier, but I still haven't heard a reply. Just to make sure that I understand what the assignment directions are: we have to use that form on eLearning to evaluate the sites. It is actually 3 forms (2 pages each) for a total of 6 pages. We have to submit all 6 papers (3 forms, one for each website) as ONE file?
ReplyDeleteDoes that sound right and make sense? I was confused by her comments about "one document" in the directions.
Yep that's what I understood from in that we turn it in as one Word document

DeleteAnd I haven't heard back from the professor either for that email I thought she said to wait for an immediate response
DeleteKati- I think we have to find three websites per person, that we could send students to use while doing our project. These sites could be on specific subtitles or general information that would help them find more information on our big idea. Lets list some ideas on this post so that we can generate some good sites to divvy up among us, and also make sure nobody evaluates the same site.
ReplyDeleteSome that I found are:
ReplyDelete1. http://kidshealth.org/kid/stay_healthy/food/pyramid.html
2. http://www.choosemyplate.gov
3. https://www.lifeclinic.com/focus/nutrition/food-pyramid.asp
4. http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org/kid-friendly-healthy-recipes
5. http://jumpbunch.com/kids-click-here/fitness-games/
I am going to evaluate number 1, 4, and 5 for my sites if nobody has started yet. Some of these sites include information on the food pyramid itself, but some include ideas for recipes for the health fair and exercise games for kids
Awesome, thanks for the ideas! I'm going to look some up tomorrow :)

DeleteOk so I am for sure going to use http://www.choosemyplate.gov/ but I am having trouble finding other websites with legitimate references/citations. Im having trouble figuring out how to know if a website is credible or not. They have authors and belong to a organization/foundation but don't list any references or anything. Do you guys have any advice? Maybe I am just overthinking it but I couldn't answer any of the questions on the web evaluation form with any other websites but this one.
ReplyDeleteHere are the sites I'm evaluating:
ReplyDelete1. Choose My Plate: http://www.choosemyplate.gov
2. American Heart Association: http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/HealthyLiving/HealthyKids/ActivitiesforKids/Happy-Healthy-Eating-for-Kids_UCM_312475_Article.jsp#.VquuXPkrLIU
3. CDC Division of Nutritoin, Physical Activity, and Obesity: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpao/index.html
Its ok if you can't find any references or citations for some. One of my sites was an exercise site and I just said that it didn't have references but by reading the descriptions of the games, it is some sort of exercise (which makes it credible). I also go by if it has any affiliations with other organizations. One of my sites had won awards from certain associations, so I use that as a sign of credibility as well. Try to get sites that end in .gov, .edu, .org, etc.
ReplyDeleteOk thanks that makes me feel better because I searched for SO long to find websites with references!
DeleteDo you know how to save the file on your computer? I typed the answers to all of the questions on the evaluation sheets she gave us to download, but now I can't figure out how to save them to my computer so I can upload them to dropbox
DeleteWhen you go to the questionnaire link there is a "download" button underneath all of the text that you click and it downloads it as a Microsoft Word doc. You download it first and then put everything in. Thats what I did and typed all of my responses on there and saved it like a normal Word doc. Does that help?
DeleteYES! For some reason it wouldn't save earlier this week and I was trying everything (everything except the right way). Thank you!
